Anybody knows that the United states is a country of cultural diverseness. Holidays unite people in the United States. Each vacation has its meaning and significance to the nation equally a whole, and each denizen in particular. Public holidays are the days, when virtually people have an official 24-hour interval off. Country-run institutions are airtight.

• On New Year's Day (January one), Americans have parties, invite their friends, make New Year resolutions, and have much fun.
• Martin Luther Rex Solar day (the tertiary Monday of January) is the birthday of Martin Luther Male monarch, Jr., an African-American activist and the leader of the American civil correct movement in 1950s – 1960s. His bodily birthday is Jan xv, but the holiday is observed on the 3rd Mon of January.
• President'southward Twenty-four hours (the third Monday of February) is a holiday when people honor all U.S.  presidents. Officially, it's dedicated to George Washington's Altogether.
• On Independence Day (July 4), people commemorate the Declaration of Independence of 1976 equally a formal document that appear a new country's creation. Traditionally, there are spectacular fireworks on that day.
• Columbus Day (the 2d Monday of October) is the day when Christopher Columbus landed in America (October 12, 1492). In the USA it's observed on the second Monday of October.
• Thanksgiving (the 4th Thursday of Nov) is a big family holiday, American families follow their tradition, and take dinner with a roasted turkey.
• As for Christmas (December 25), most people stay at home with their families, they have a special dinner, give gifts to i another, little children are looking forwards to gifts from Santa.

Other public holidays are younger, they reflect the nation's colorful history.

• On Memorial Day (the last Monday of May) people honor the military personnel who died while serving in the war machine.
• Juneteenth Independence Day (June 19) is aimed at the commemoration of slavery'southward finish.
• Veterans Day (November eleven) is defended to military veterans.
• Labor Day (the 1st Monday of September) pays tribute to all workers and their activities.
• Inauguration Day is observed once in four years later the new election of the President.

Some holidays are celebrated, simply normally people still piece of work on those days.

Как сказать «отмечать праздник» по-английски?

Отмечать праздники можно по-разному. Можно так «отметить», что потом трудно идти на работу, а можно просто сказать, мол, окей, сегодня день чего-то там. В английском есть такие способы сказать «отпраздновать» или «отметить праздник»:

• to celebrate smt — праздновать в значении «гулять, веселиться в честь чего-то»
• to notice smt — отмечать праздник. Не обязательно именно праздновать (т.е. устраивать какие-то особые мероприятия или участвовать в них). Некоторые holidays — не веселые по своему характеру, такие как различные дни памяти, скорби. О них уместнее говорить «observe», а не «celebrate».
• to mark smt — отметить что-то, почтить память какого-то события (не в значении «отметить» как гулять, веселиться). В современном английском встречается очень редко.

• day-off — выходной день
• to commemorate — чтить память
• to honor — чествовать, чтить память
• to pay tribute — отдавать дань памяти, воздать должное, букв.: отдавать дань
• to treat — угощать (в данном контексте)
• to land in America — прибыть в Америку, если точнее, то высадиться с судна, также может значить «приземлиться» (вряд ли во времена Колумба это значение было сильно распространено).
