Will Ash Blossom Be Printed Again

"Line" came a calm phonation in the dark, it was my Japanese messenger app calling out in my Blue Mountains bedroom. Blind my hand navigated the mess on the floor to reconnect with Japan.

My friend Shouta from Sapporo had sent me a message to tell me that the cherry blossoms were starting to flower. Cherry bloom flavor brings together child through to grandparent and salaryman alike, stocked upwardly with snacks, drinks and tarpaulins every bit the nation goes into picnic fashion.

Like a pinkish wave covering the island nation, prefecture past prefecture, the cherry bloom trees slowly stretch towards Japan's frosty Due north. Sapporo, located in Japans northern most island Hokkaido, is one of the terminal areas to plough a shade of pinkish.

My first brush with the blooms was roughly ii hours bulldoze from Niigata metropolis at Takada park. Capable tour-guide, honey friend and Niigata local Lisa took myself, a bunch of larrikin Aussies, a cheeky pommy and a teddy bear upon a pink expedition.

Even before leaving the auto, as we tried to find that allusive parking spot, our jaws dropped in awe. For the outset fourth dimension, our eyes lay sight on streets lined with cerise blossoms creating a lazy canopy of fragile pink that glowed in the belatedly afternoon sun.

We navigated crowded paths surrounded past yatai, or food stalls, with salesmen hawking their goods. Calls of IRASSHAI DOUZO and general sales banter filled the air. Grilled squid, yakitori, butter potatoes, choco bananas among other things loomed out at united states of america making the states salivate.

When the sun set the lights powered up transforming a turret with emerald shades equally it stood tall and proud, flanked by brilliant cherry flower blooms. The black completeness of dark mingled with splashes of vibrant pink and green danced on the mote.

Passing past jolly picnic revellers one of my mates chosen out "here are the boys" to a group of salarymen who enthusiastically stuck their thumbs up and cheered.

……

Cherry blossom season just passed began with ohanami, or carmine blossom viewing, in Osaka.

My friend Dan and I met up with Osaka local Kanae and her friends to view yozakura, or nighttime cerise flower, at Osaka castle.

A long line of people stretched out from the entrance like a snake. As with all things Japanese however information technology was efficient and orderly so we weren't waiting too long.

Once inside the grounds, Osaka castle commanded our attention with it's imperial roof tops, cool colours and impressive architecture. Information technology stood out in disobedience confronting the darkness of night, flanked by rows of plump ruby-red flower trees.

Nosotros ventured off the manicured path into the blood-red bloom field and found ourselves a nice spot to set up our picnic. A group of men who were leaving kindly gave us their tarpaulin to sit on. We took off our shoes, croaky open our drinks and spread the food out in the heart.

Around us sat business groups, families and friends all gathered under the blooms. Jolly chatter filled the air as nosotros shared the night with new friends and old, gazing upwards at the warm, almost nurturing blossoms sheltering us.

Also typically Japanese was the manner in which everyone left at closing time. Regardless of varying states of intoxication when the closing telephone call came at 9PM everyone got up, disposed of their rubbish correctly, and left in a calm, orderly manner. Dan and myself were amazed at this trying to imagine this same behaviour replicated in our domicile countries, without much luck.

……

My final ohanami for the yr was at Ueno park in Tokyo, by dissimilarity this time I was with a group composed entirely of Aussie mates; my Niseko ski season buddies.

As it was a piddling tardily in Tokyo'south bloom cycle the copse were starting to abound thin, showing off their spindly branches stretching towards the sky. Regardless there were even so steadfast blooms to admire and a pink carpet of petals to walk on.

Luck was on our side once more as we scored a gratuitous tarpaulin and picnic spot from a parting group. Everything was bathed in a dappled light equally the sun shone through our cherry blossom canopy.

Nosotros removed our shoes, spread out our food and cracked open up the beers. Nosotros had raided a local combini, or convenience store, for our supplies which included chips, chocolates, yakitori, udon, lollies and fifty-fifty cheese! I love cheese, if you haven't noticed.

It seemed all of Tokyo's vibrant characters had made the trip to Ueno. Amidst the usual picnic revellers of business groups, families and friends, there was the Enterprising Entrepreneur, who had bought some beers from the combini and was walking upward and downward attempting to sell them.

IMG_5403

In that location was also the Weird Themed Guy, an old human wearing brown fluffy teddy bear short shorts, a teddy carry bag, teddy behave shirt and beanie adorned with teddy bear ears. He made the rounds, eventually parking at our picnic, he was harmless but also incredibly difficult to lose.

IMG_5400

Towards the end of the day as things started to take on a hazy look, our boozed upward neighbours likewise joined our picnic. It was a typical scenario of Confident Guy who introduces his friend who is "learning English" while said learner sits at that place in silence looking painfully shy.

IMG_5398

This scenario was turned upwards a notch when Confident Guy literally picked up and dragged his wife over to the states announcing "this is my wife!" By the look on her confront she might not be his wife for long.
